Odin is the newcomer to my world. He is an 11-year-old rescued doggie from a shelter where they have 240 dogs. Well, now 239. I hope the number is going to get lower and lower. As far as I know, most people choose puppies instead of grown-ass dogs because they think a puppy is easier to handle or to control, teach, whatsoever. In my way of seeing this, an adult dog from a shelter knows this world far enough to fully live the new life given. Odin's love seems limitless and his gratitude shows in every move he makes. It's interesting to learn what being grateful truly means.
The word dog is god in reverse. I've always found that extremely amusing. I've been surrounded by dogs all my 37 years so it's not a surprise that I love them. They are pure love, no doubt about that. Yet, it's a must to keep them from overbreeding. I think their castration is the most human act one can make. Love is about the other one and these poor creatures can't stop their instincts which leads to chaos and catastrophe. This world can not handle more stray dogs. That experience in the shelter was anything but pleasant. I felt their pain and their disappointment. It's on us, humans. We can make a difference, they can't.
Odin has made a change in my life and I can't be thankful enough for that. When you have a 'helpless' creature around you certainly think twice before doing anything. Time also became an issue. You can't leave a dog alone in a huge garden for too long because it's positive that he will find (mostly) dangerous entertainment. Had to become more active outdoors again. The only challenge is going to be the summer planning, now that he is here. We'll see.
your soul friend,
Kata The Nomad
