Don't know about you, but becoming the 'best man' a few days before the wedding is both an honor and a terrifying fact. Let me get this straight! I have no proper clothes, no fitting dandy shoes - basically better go naked. Nah, ain't ever gonna happen, yet it gives me the giggles to imagine all the faces! I just threw a bachelorette party for my college friend and thought that was it. All I have to do is attend her wedding solo, which itself gave me headaches. Don't misunderstand it! I'm fine going solo but the stupid questions and the commiserating looks tire me out. I don't want to talk about my private life in front of 40-50 people. I prefer staying mysterious and unreadable to complete strangers. Maybe I'm single, maybe I'm not. Why do you care in the first place? What do you want from me? Mingle talks do not start with that. Being older than most of her female relatives (except mothers, godmothers, etc.) and friends is enough for a challenge. Society wants you to live your life according to that invisible big book. Well, I've never been able to fit into that. Not going to start now. I am who I am, and I'm happy for being me. Constantly changing but in my way.
It feels like a 'Top Gun' VS 'MI:6'/'Mission: Impossible' quest being the 'best (wo)man' tomorrow! For God's sake, I'm only mortal! I have to get up early to get a proper breakfast, quick shower, do my hair and make-up, pack my pretty clothes, and dress up in blue jeans and a white T-shirt for the road. I travel by train (transfer 1 time, use 2 trains), and walk a little. Arriving before the ceremony to change clothes and talk the bride down from running away. Then sign their marriage paper to help them get legal. Go to the lunch venue and give the speech (act like both a stand-up comedian and a blues singer) then eat the lovely vegetarian menu designed for me. Then a little dancing (having high hopes for some good ROCK music) and the bloody cakes! But the challenge is the meanwhile when you fight for survival! Muhahaha. Just kidding. It's gonna be epicawesome.
Anyways, wish me luck! Some stories and feed is going to be uploaded tomorrow during the quest, so stay tuned! @katathewriter @katathenomad
your soul buddy,
