Had to pick up the keyboard and tell you all how I feel about this show. Not just the writing but the acting and the atmosphere. It's most definitely a 'one of a kind' for me. Not just because I think Jeremy Renner has his reward-game solos in it, but because every other character has his/her perfect time and place. The dynamic and dialogues are sharp, the violence and the doomed fates are there to shake things up. Why did I watch these episodes (10) about America's prison system?
The McLusky family has so much to offer. Have to praise the Mother of the three brothers - Dianne Wiest, who had me crying my 'manly tears' at so many points. Her every move is a gift to the hungry. I mean, to witness such great acting is rare nowadays. The girl who plays Iris - Emma Laird - is someone the industry must keep an eye on! Kyle Chandler had his short, yet good part - he set Jeremy Renner off. Mike McLusky is one hell of a character! The touch of the dark side, the call of the wild, man apart with a huge heart. I'm hoping for more to come. Writing it in my head already.
Hugh Dillon and Taylor Sheridan did a great job on this crime drama - more of a drama to me. Bloody thriller, love story with vengeance. Many interesting characters, the business of incarceration, seven prisons within a 10-mile radius. Everybody lets their beasts out, freaks on a leash, and acts on evil impulsions.
Racial inequalities of the American corrections system - nobody ever had a doubt, yet it is shown perfectly. Not writing as a wise-ass, we all have seen/have heard many stories about it. I believe this show can answer the questions about violence and punishment. The things we do to ourselves, and the things others do to us for no real reason.
I am aware that my readers' interests may vary, yet I have to recommend watching this show if you are having a hard time in this material world. It might move you forward. It surely gives you something, the power to stand up and change things. For the better.
your cheerful soul friend,
