From the 20th of October to the 19th of November, there is a month where we can go deeper into our relationship with God. Damodara is one of the so many names of God. He has this sweet and wonderful pastime, a childhood pastime, where His mother Yasoda punishes Him for stealing the butter and yogurt by breaking the pots and sharing it with the monkeys. Mother Yasoda tries to bind Him at the waist to prevent Him from another mischief - but Damodara has already been up to one - all the ropes His mother brings seem to be 2 inches short. Finally, God lets His mother bind Him while crying crocodile tears from His lotus eyes.
One can be from any region of this world, can come from any kind of religion - the holy times are open to everybody. Kartik month is very spiritual, the holiest month of the year when you all can make extra vows, perform extra spiritual activities, think about your lives extra carefully with much more inner light!
To light a candle, a lamp, or a tiny lampion - up to you and your budget - is always heartwarming. To welcome the light itself into our lives - that is a holy activity each and every time. These daily offerings are voluntary and trust me on this, many people love to dedicate their time, love, and energy to make God happy. The effort is always seen. Sense control and prayers are too.
You don't have to be religious to do this. All you have to understand is the month-long opportunity to open your heart and let God in.
